Project type
Digital Reconstruction
Date
Spring 2025
Location
Jackson Hole, WY
My Resor House Reconstruction is a physical and analytical exploration of Mies van der Rohe’s unbuilt 1937 project for the Resor family in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, his first U.S. commission and a critical transition in his architectural evolution. Though the house was never built, Mies’ extensive drawings and models reflect his efforts to reconcile modernist ideals with a rugged natural site.
Through modeling, I recreated an early version of the Resor House, emphasizing its central floating dining room, grid-based structure, and the dynamic relationship between wood, stone, and glass. My study focuses on the project’s spatial tension, horizontal planes framed by mountainous backdrops, and Mies’ rare use of wood cladding to ground the building in its context.
This work highlights how the Resor House bridged Mies’ European roots and American future, offering insight into the structural clarity and spatial openness that would define his later work.
